A Silver medal for Singapore!

After 48 years, we finally got another medal. A silver! At the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Thanks to the women's' table-tennis team. It was a game well played. I watched in excitement and awe as the game was in progress. I never followed table-tennis. I'd rather watch swimming or gymnastics or even 100m sprints. But this time round, everyone was talking abt table-tennis. And it just got me all hyped up. Had to watch it. And I did. Over dinner.

I have to say the Chinese team was very very strong. They seem to be able to pre-empt every move the Singapore team was gonna make. And goodness, there was a close-up slow-motion shot where Wang Nan (China) attacked with a backhand, and the ping pong ball actually can spin! Feng Tian Wei (Singapore) defended and the ball just spun off into the air... Gosh, it was a very powerful shot. Well, they are after all, world number 1.

Still it was a game well-played, so congrats to Li Jia Wei, Feng Tian Wei, Wang Yue Gu and the rest of the Singapore team on their tremendous effort in bringing home the silver medal! WOOHOO...

Here are the results:

Match 1
Wang Nan vs Feng Tian Wei ~ (3-1)
9-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-6

Match 2
Zhang Yi Ning vs Li Jia Wei ~ (3-1)
9-11, 11-3, 11-4, 11-7

Match 3
Guo Yue/Zhang Yi Ning vs Wang Yue Gu/Li Jia Wei ~ (3-0)
11-8, 11-5, 11-6
