Gala Premiere - 幸福万岁 Love Matters

Was invited to the gala premiere of yet another movie by Jack Neo. 幸福万岁 Love Matters, as it is titled.

My invite

This movie evolves around 3 men, middle-aged Tan Bo Seng (played by Henry Thia, his teenage son Benny (played by Alex Leong) and Bo Seng's adopted brother Jeremy (played by Jack Lim). It depicts how they embark on their journey looking for love & happiness.

While Bo Seng tries very hard to revive the love life & re-ignite the passion with his wife Jia Li (played by Yeo Yann Yann), things take a peculiar turn when Bo Seng is suspected of impotency. Jia Li had a brief encounter with Xiao Han, a gigolo (played by Mark Lee) while Bo Seng gets to know a girl from the local hawker centre.

Benny on the other hand has no life other than school, his computer & porn. However, he does have a crush on his classmate's girlfriend, Jennifer (played by Natali). And from there, he gets into trouble.

Jeremy, who leads a flamboyant lifestyle, with an unwillingness to commit, meets Benny's school teacher Ms Wong (played by Cheryl Lee). And from there, everything starts looking different.

Like many of Jack Neo's previous productions, there will always be lots of comical situations and jokes that leave you in stitches. I like the way this movie was presented, showcasing how different people deal with affairs of the heart. And of course, not forgetting to mention Henry Thia, and his super corny expression. After so many years in the industry, he finally gets his break and takes the lead this time. However, Henry not only was the butt of jokes, he also proved his acting skills in many scenes later in the movie where scenes required him to shed tears and show a lot more emotion. 有感情戏哦! There are a few points in the movie that will trigger off some thoughts. I find it very meaning.

It's a very interesting movie. I totally enjoyed it. Do catch it with your loved ones this lunar new year. Have a good laugh. Opens in theaters 22.1.2009.

Here's one of the teasers that reminds you to turn of your mobile phone in the cinema:

Ed - You referring to ths stars nice or me nice ah? ;P

Harmony - Thks for dropping by. But I beg to differ. Behind the scenes perhaps. But on screen, most were fresh faces and new mix of chemistry. Also, Love Matters wasn't directed by Jack himself.

I'd say you might see similarities in all of Jack's movies, cos afterall, that's his style. But give LOVE MATTERS a chance. There are worth watching moments and scenes which defintely touch. It's not just plain jokes... :)
